CHICAGO RECOGNIZES TEEN & MISS EARTH USA DURING ANNUAL DOWNTOWN ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

One of the largest parades in the United States, the national titleholders took part in annual ceremonies in Downtown Chicago on Saturday, March 11

Winter weather was no obstacle for hundreds of thousands of people attending the annual 2023 St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Chicago in the Midwestern state of Illinois. Events took place on the Saturday prior to the popular spirited holiday.

Teen Miss Earth USA Tayan Stansfield and Miss Earth USA Danielle Mullins were honored with a final position in the downtown parade. The President of the Chicagoland Chapter of Buick Club of America drove the two young women during the two-hour event.

Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day parade dates back to 1858, with the historic parade route placed along Lake Michigan. The grandstand is placed in front of Buckingham Fountain. The event aired on ABC 7 Chicago television.

Earlier Saturday morning, Stansfield and Mullins witnessed the dying of the Chicago River. This tradition began in 1962, when members of the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local Union dumped 100 pounds of dye into the river. The following year, the plumbers took special care to create a vegetable-based dye that would not harm the water or marine life. The bright green shade lasts 24-48 hours before returning to the river's normal state.

Known as Beauties for a Cause®, Miss Earth® empowers women through community leadership, eco-tourism, and environmental education. Recognized as a charitable organization with 501(C)(3) tax exempt status, the pageant’s nonprofit B4ACUSA Foundation provides scholarships and grants to participants. Each of the state delegates conducts home state environmental projects and brings awareness to local issues and organizations.
